Cosgard

Cosgard is an antibacterial and antifungal preservative with a broad spectrum of action. It prevents the development of bacteria, yeast and mold in cosmetic products containing water: emulsions (creams, milks), cleansing products (liquid soaps, shower gel, shampoo, etc.), gels and lotions.

Dosage

0.2 to 1% in rinse-off and leave-on product formulations. The higher percentage would be used if your product had a high percentage of water or plant extracts.

Formulation recommendations

• Use between pH 2 and 7
• Efficacy may be compromised above a pH of 7
• Improved compatibility allows product to be added virtually anywhere in the manufacturing process
• Very soluble in polar organic solvents
• Anionic can cause discoloration as well as carbomers and some surfactants
